I want to tell you these things mumma : Your New Born

As a mother, when our babies are new born, we find them in their most innocent stage. They look cute for sure but there is nothing much they seem to tell us. We mothers have to quest our own ways of reading and understanding our newly born bundle of joys. When they cry, we feed them. When they make faces, we check them and clean them, if needed. However, there are few more things that new born babies express to their mothers:
1. I know you mumma since long: When you first take your new born baby and you speak in front of him/her, the baby immediately recognizes you and says "Hello Mumma". Inside a mother's utero, the baby can hear his/her mother's voice so by birth; these not-so-working babies can clearly distinguish their mother's voice and other's voice. That's why doctors often suggest mothers to talk to their unborn babies so that their bonding after birth can easily be made.
2. I can find you mumma : As per research, a fetus learns to recognize his/her mother's smells in the third trimester. And this is how a new born can find his/her mother even without any sight needed. Doctors often suggest that if you are trying to get babies to sleep in a crib, give them any object that can represent their mother. For example, any cloth or pillow that their mothers have used.
3. My eyesight is not good yet mumma : After birth a baby's eye sight typically stands around 60/200. This means new born babies can't see objects which are more than 20 feet away. Within 6 months, their eye sight gets improved and they can then see objects as any adult can. So if you are trying to attract a new born with any toy or with making faces, go close to them.
4. I love faces mumma: New born babies prefer different faces over different toys. They start recognizing human faces by birth and they find it more interesting that noticing any toy. So if you are buying a baby gear, please keep in mind that for 1 or 2 months, your new born would like to see family faces more than the stimuli.
5. High contrast color patterns are my favorite: New borns can't distinguish between so many colors. But they prefer high contrast patterns mainly in two colors. Like black and white, Blue and white check patterns. Day by day, you will notice your baby's eyes as he/she focuses on more objects and patterns which are of dark color. Keep this in mind when buying rattles, prefer two contrast colored ones.
6. I don't cry with tears mumma: New borns make faces when they are hungry. They make arcs with their back or wail when they are uncomfortable. But while crying they don't get teary. A new born has tear duck in his/her body but it only produces liquid sufficient to protect eyes. Normally tears start coming after 3 months. So make sure they won't cry for longer because they may get irritation in eyes.
7. I have more bones than you have mumma : When babies are born, they have around 270 bones. With time some of the bones from skull and spine get together and then make a total of 206 bones. That's why they can twist their whole body easily. As per research, having more separated bones (as well as a lot of cartilage in the skeleton) helps babies get through the birthing process easily and without getting hurt.
See your new born is so intelligent that without words he/she tells you these many things. Their way of expression might be different but they are no less than any adult in terms of physical wonder and IQ.

#MoreIndianThanYouThink Being an Indian Mother is Success for me

This world is a beautiful place. It’s really amazing how different countries with their unique cultures exist in harmony here. I know, there are some exceptions; however, I think that is almost negligible when I see the culmination of values and beliefs in our universe. Everyone is exclusive and different, yet all of us make this planet livable. As a mature person who got the chance to understand the ethos of a few other continents, I can proudly say that our country holds a different space in this world, a culture that is known for its strong family system and core values. Feeling proud about our mother land is no unique. But being an Indian, I have gained so much at my professional front.

Yes, I am a working mother of a 3-year-old boy. I have close to 9 years of experience in software industry and I am looking forward to work for more and more years. Being a mother and being a professional person bring two different kinds of challenges in life. And when you work for a demanding clien…

#MothersDay - A blog by Divya, ANAYA's Mother

A mother becomes a mother the day she gets to know about the little embryo inside her womb.
It all started one fine day when I did my pregnancy test and it resulted positive. Life changed from the very moment. I was excited but a bit nervous too. I and my husband were working in two different cities that time. So the excited supermom in me felt extra responsible to take care of the baby. I started spending my days managing home, office, long travel, shopping, exercise, reading and any and every thing which could be added to the list. My baby kept me motivated and never let me feel alone. At times when I felt low she kicked me as if she was saying ‘Don’t worry mom. You rock! :) However, by end of sixth month I felt exhausted and I decided to move to my mother’s place for delivery and give some time to my husband to settle down with his work life.

After seven hectic years of work life I was enjoying a peaceful time. Days were spent in all sorts of preparations to welcome the child. But…
